Is a Dial up ISP Outdated
Many customers think that a dial up ISP, or an internet provider offering dial up service, is sorely outdated. Partly, this is because high speed and DSL ISPs have worked to create the image of dial up as old-fashioned and ineffective. Actually, though, dial up ISP companies are doing well and customers are turning to them for viable internet services. In fact, dial up ISP services offer a number of advantages:
1) No distractions while you are on the phone or internet. It's funny, but high speed and DSL ISP companies will often call customers during supper or during a busy work day to try to convince them that talking and surfing is important. Yet these very phone calls prove that phone calls can be very disruptive and irritating! With dial up ISP, you never have to worry about unwanted phone calls while you relax or work online.
2) Easy roaming access. With dial up ISP, you only need a land line and a computer to dial into your internet account and start surfing.
3) Cost effective. Dial up ISP is still chosen by many customers because it offers the lowest cost quality internet service. In fact, it can often be cheaper to buy a dedicated phone line and get service through a dial up ISP than to select one of the ADSL or high speed options. This can give you two land lines and the choice to surf and talk at the same time.
4) Possibly higher security. With an "always on" internet connection, it is easier for hackers to find your computer and attempt to hack in. Plus, security experts agree that hackers and other online criminals are more attracted to high speed connections (which offer faster speed) than dial up connections. Although a dial up ISP won't leave you invulnerable to security problems, you can always turn off your internet connection when opening or typing sensitive information.
5) Enough speed. According to market research, most online users use the internet for basic information and for email. Unless you want to download very large files or view streaming video, a dial up ISP offers you all the internet and speed you need - for less.
